What Is the WaveLight EX500?
The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser System's proven, state-of-the-art technology results in excellent Wavefront Optimized® and Wavefront-Guided laser vision correction. The system includes a number of new refractive technology innovations to produce effective, reliable, and fast laser procedures.
The EX500 is designed to provide an incredibly high level of reliability and precision, and is ergonomically designed to pair with the WaveLight® FS200 Femtosecond Laser. With the help of the WaveNet™ Integrated Computer Network, both laser systems are linked with WaveLight® diagnostic products for seamless data transfer and more efficient treatment planning.

What Makes the EX500 Different
Ultra-Fast Laser Vision Correction
The EX500 combines PerfectPulse Technology®, a 500 Hz repetition rate, an enclosed beam path design, and laser spot physics to make the WaveLight® Refractive Suite the fastest refractive surgery platform available in the US — with a standard flap creation time of roughly 6 seconds. It is the only excimer laser to operate at 500 Hz, with an average treatment time of approximately 1.4 seconds per diopter.
PerfectPulse® Precision & Safety
An ultra-thin laser beam sculpts the corneal surface with exceptional precision, while PerfectPulse Technology® uses a proprietary eye-tracking system to follow the eye's fastest movements. This ensures accurate placement of each laser pulse on the cornea — keeping treatment on the correct axis and avoiding displacements for excellent refractive outcomes.
Multi-Spatial Eye Tracking
The EX500 features a multi-spatial 1,050 Hz eye tracker (synchronized at 500 Hz) with latency times as short as 2 milliseconds — tracking at speeds up to 10 times faster than natural eye movement. Its active, video-based, closed-loop system captures and processes each image and verifies eye position before releasing the next pulse.
Advanced Lighting & Cross-Line Projector
The WaveLight® Advanced Lighting System works in conjunction with the 1,050 Hz eye tracking to minimize eye movement during treatment, and an integrated cross-line projector gives your surgeon exact alignment of the head and eye — indicating correct patient position and further enhancing safety and precision.
