How Long Does LASIK Last?

How Long Does LASIK in Austin Usually Last?

“How long Does LASIK last?” is a question we hear from many of our patients in Austin, Georgetown, and surrounding areas. LASIK eye surgery is a corrective procedure for near and far-sightedness and astigmatism. During Austin LASIK surgery, the cornea is reshaped to correct vision. This shaping is irreversible and permanent. And while the procedure can correct current vision problems, it cannot correct future changes due to aging and degeneration or other medical issues. Below, we’ll cover this question in more detail, so you can get a better idea of how long Austin LASIK lasts.

The Refractive Surgery Council (RSC) reports patients who undergo the LASIK procedure achieve better than 20/40 vision and experience a high level of satisfaction after the procedure. Some worry about the effects of LASIK “wearing off”. This myth is untrue because LASIK is permanent, however, some patients may experience vision changes because of the normal process of aging. Although Austin LASIK Surgery is a permanent corrective procedure, a number of factors may affect how long a patient can “see” the benefits. Changes in health or the eyes make this a hard question to answer.

Does LASIK Last Forever?

According to the
American Refractive Surgery Council, yes, laser vision correction procedures, such as LASIK, lasts forever. Since LASIK permanently reshapes the cornea and improves vision prescription, the imperfections are gone forever.

How Many Times Can You Get LASIK?

There is really no limit on the number of times you can get LASIK. The
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states it can take up to 6 months for vision to stabilize after Austin LASIK surgery. Before additional corrective surgery, its recommended eye measurements maintain consistency for 2 consecutive post-op visits.

How Long Does a LASIK Eye Surgery Last?

If your eyes maintain stability with no vision changes, then you can expect long-lasting effects. However, as a living being, we age over time and this includes our eyes. Some people experience no change in vision after LASIK for 10 or 20 years. But maintaining the same results for a lifetime is highly unlikely. Fortunately, though, the
American Academy of Ophthalmology reports although age-related vision problems are common, many eye problems are treatable.

As winter sets in, it brings unique challenges for eye health. The cold air and indoor heating can lead to dry eyes and discomfort, making it essential to adopt a winter eye care routine. Here are some tips to keep your eyes healthy this season: 1. Stay Hydrated Dry winter air can dehydrate your body and eyes. Drink plenty of water to maintain moisture levels and consider using a humidifier at home to add moisture to the air. 2. Protect Your Eyes When heading outdoors, wear sunglasses or goggles to shield your eyes from wind, cold, and UV rays. Even in winter, harmful UV radiation can affect your eyes. 3. Use Eye Drops Artificial tears can provide relief for dry, irritated eyes. Look for preservative-free options to use throughout the day, especially when working in dry environments. 4. Limit Screen Time With shorter days and longer nights, you might find yourself spending more time indoors and on screens. Practice the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet away. 5. Consider LASIK If you’re tired of dealing with glasses that fog up in winter conditions, consider LASIK or other vision correction procedures. These options can improve your vision and enhance your comfort during the colder months. 6. Schedule an Eye Exam Winter is a great time to get your eyes checked. An eye exam can ensure your vision is at its best and address any concerns you may have about dryness or irritation. By taking these simple steps, you can enjoy a comfortable and healthy winter season. For more personalized advice or to discuss vision correction options, contact Restivo Laser Vision today!
